The first London Festival of Gymnastics was held in 1991. Since then it has been held annually at the Crystal Palace National Sports Center, and Croydon School of Gymnastics has been present at all of them with displays ranging from a kindergarten warm-up to Disney's The Jungle Book, Duran Duran's Wildboys and our own Oddballs display.
Disney'sThe Jungle Book In 1994 a group of gymnasts wowed the audience with a performance to music from Walt Disney's The Jungle Book. The performers were Alexa Gibbon, Ruth Carpenter, Sarah Silk, Stephanie Marnell, Chloe Cain, Megan Wild, Katie Russell, Stacy Clark, Sara Lim, Amy Price, Nathan Guage, Richard Potton, Karl Vijayaratnam, Cherie Bosher, Ryan Dennington, Kelly Bosher, David Divilly, Richard Budzynski and Daniel Burke.
Back to top Duran Duran's Wildboys In 1997 14 boys from Croydon thrilled the audience by performing a display to Duran Duran's Wildboys. The performers in this display were Joshua Quiney, Ryan Evans, Ian Coupar, Freddie Mason, Paul Grace, Richard Potton, Mark Stickling, Karl Vijayaratnam, Ryan Dennington, Nee Sykes, David Divilly, Alex Winchurch, Nicholas Shute and Daniel Burke.
Back to top Oddballs In 1993 Croydon had the crowds on the edges of their seats with this comedy vaulting routine. Packed full of breath-taking stunts, it was a definite Don't try this at home kids!!! So far calls from the club's older gymnasts have failed to bring a revival in the Oddballs, but watch this space! The Oddballs pictured here were Dexter Casey, Tarek Merlin, Robin Hill, William Green, James Callaghan and Patrick Morris.
