![]() Special Olympics GB Athletes on their Way to Athens Thanks to Cash4Clubs Grants18 learning disabled athletes have been chosen by Cash4Clubs to be the first recipient’s of a Special Olympics GB grant. Betfair’s Cash4Clubs’ scheme was launched by Dame Kelly Holmes in 2008 to support grassroots sports clubs and programmes. A portion of the £10,000 grant was divided up between 18 athletes who were fund-raising to attend Special Olympics World Summer Games Athens – the largest sporting event in the world in 2011 with 180 countries and 7,000 learning disabled athletes (25 June – 4 July). Each one of the 157 athletes chosen for the team has had to raise £2,000 to participate. Special Olympics CEO Karen Wallin, said: “We are just delighted to be chosen by Cash4Clubs. Our charity relies on corporate and private donations to provide sports training and competitions to over 8,000 learning disabled children and adults each week. The grant was instrumental in helping to get our team to Athens to represent Great Britain, and will also help to launch new clubs around the country.” Betfair’s Head of Corporate Responsibility, Georgina Corbett, added: “We are excited Cash 4 Clubs is able to help talente d athletes via this joint initiative with Special Olympics GB. We wish all of the team well and hope the £2,500 awarded in grants will allow the athletes to perform to the best of their ability in Athens. Betfair is committed to grassroots sport so we’re delighted to announce that a further £7,500 will be available to Special Olympics GB groups in July 2011. We hope this makes a real difference to a number of groups and their members, enabling them to purchase new equipment and invest in their facilities.” The chosen athletes are: ![]()

This money was used to subsidise the cost of our summer camp trip to Russia for Emma Roach, Ruth Mayne & Philip Davis. Grant received February 2002 After the success of our teams at the National TeamGym Finals 2000 it has become apparent that we needed to upgrade our tumble track for a more state or the art carbon fibre rod tumble track. After putting aside £6,000 we applied to Awards for All in September 2001 and were delighted to receive acknowledgement of a grant for £5,000 in February 2002.
On behalf of Croydon School of Gymnastics we would like to thank Awards for All
for granting us this award for a new tumble track. Since the arrival of
this vital piece of apparatus we have seen huge improvements from all gymnasts
of all levels and abilities.
Being the only club in the London Borough of Croydon this has attracted many visitors to the club. We have given the opportunity to many local gymnasts to come and train with us so that they may gain the benefit of its use.

Fundraising for New Equipment Money is obviously necessary for the maintenance of the gym's equipment and the purchase of new kit. This is why the fundraising team is constantly planning different types of fundraising events from sponsored conditioning sessions to the annual Christmas party, where you can count on finding at least one jolly old man!

Fundraising for New Premises For many years now, the club has been run from the main hall of Purley Oaks Primary School in South Croydon. While we have remained very successful, we have long outgrown these premisses Having to set up and pack away the equipment every training session greatly limits the time available for training, not to mention tiring out the gymnasts before they even begin! In the past we have Contacted many, many sources of funding, but always drawn a blank. We desperately need to expand, so any financial help, or even just suggestions would be gratefully received. |

At the end of the day, everybody lends a hand in packing away the apparatus to leave an empty school hall! |
