REPORT ON THE LGF AWARDS DINNER 14TH SEPTEMBER 2009
HELD IN THE INTERNATIONAL SUITE -
WEMBLEY PLAZA HOTEL
Once again the LGF Awards Dinner had a huge turn out with nearly 400 coaches,
gymnasts, officials, judges and supporters from many of the clubs based in the
32 boroughs of London gathering together for what is now one of the London
Gymnastics Federations biggest events of the year. After a splendid dinner we
were entertained by guest speakers and gymnastic displays before the awards
ceremonies began. Croydon School of Gymnastics were again delighted to receive
from The
London Gymnastics Federation
the prestigious
“Club of the Year”
award. (Incidentally we have now won that award 4 times - in 2000, 2004, (2007
year of our 40th Anniversary) & now 2009). And our trophy can be seen
displayed in reception.
The club also had 4 other award recipients within the party they were; Fern Adie
& Bethany Charlton who both picked up the young LGF
“Volunteers”
award. This award is given to youngsters under the age of 18 whose club
nominates them for loyal service. Both Fern (nearly age 16) & Bethany (age 15)
have since the age of 12 each given up their Saturday morning’s to come to the
club and get involved in helping and assisting staff in the pre-school
kindergarten classes. The club felt that their continued loyalty and hours of
voluntary help should be recognised and this was endorsed by the LGF.
Another young lady Charlotte Walker received an
Award of Merit
for services to the sport as a coach and club administrator. Although Charlotte
cannot been seen at the club coaching anymore due to her studies, she still
plays an important role within the club and can often be seen at many club
events. Last but by no means least our Jessica Mills received a special award by
the LGF Men’s Technical Committee for all her extra duties she does voluntarily
outside the club and can be seen at many regional and national events. Jessica
attends nearly all the competitions on the Men’s competition calendar and either
does the main scoring on the computer or floor manages the competition. Once
the awards had been given the evening rounded off with a disco that went on till
the early hours! A good time was had by all.
A big
THANK
YOU
to you all for your continued loyal support to your club!

CONGRATULATIONS
TO 6 MEMBERS OF
CROYDON
SCHOOL OF GYMNASTICS
WHO
RECEIVED AN AWARD OF MERIT FROM
THE LONDON GYMNASTICS
FEDERATION - SEPT 2008
This award was
presented at the Annual LGF Awards Dinner last Saturday 13th
September at the Fairfield Hall – Arnhem Gallery by Mr Peter Moore the President
of The LGF. Many different awards are bestowed to gymnasts and coaches but
the award of Merit is a special award where clubs can nominate the people who
work so hard behind the scenes in their clubs. These people are the back bone of
clubs, they give many voluntary hours to the sport of gymnastics by helping with
all the, administrative work, DIY in the building/gym, judging at competitions
or helping to organise and run competitions & events often giving up many
weekends in the year. They accompany gymnasts at competitions, and can often be
seen helping to run competitions for the LGF. This award is therefore given to
these people who keep the sport of gymnastics alive in at least one area.

Following our move
to Strand House we were delighted to receive a letter from The London Gymnastics
Federation informing us that our club would be awarded
“Club of the Year”
This has been awarded to us for
our sheer determination to keep the club going through a very stressful and
difficult year at Purley Oaks School, for our continued support to the LGF
Region in helping to run all regional competition events but above all for being
able to get gymnasts to a National Final without the use of all the necessary
equipment to train competitive level gymnasts for a the nationals last May.
On Saturday 15th
September we were delighted to have Councillor Mike Fisher and his wife Allison
along with 30 members from the club attended the London Gymnastics Federation –

receive our
“Club of the Year” award
along with a further 3 awards bestowed to – Jackie Lewis as

Philip Davis is an

also recently come back from his 3rd Summer Training Camp in Russia along with 7
other members from our boys and girls squad. He not only has achieved as a
performer but he has gained the respect of everyone within the London Gymnastics

all the Men's competitions and if he's not doing that he's helping set up and
dismantle equipment in the competition arena.
Philip is also a member of
our clubs coaching team and can be seen coaching 3 days a week at the club, and
if that's not enough he's now helping out at all the boy's
